Welcome to the first Weekly Update post of the year! I hope you’re reading week is going well and have written down all your new year’s resolutions.
Now, I’ve mentioned a bit in my Blog Update that I would like to talk about other topics on this blog. However, I don’t want to bombard the blog about so many topics all at once, that it deviates away from the main concept of this blog – which is books. So in order for me to talk about other topics that I’m interested in such as make-up, skincare, latest shows that I’m watching, my current song obsession or my endless stationary collection etc, whilst keeping the concept bookish… I’m just going to be mentioning them in these Weekly Updates blog posts.
I may do a full blog posts about these topics in the future but for now, I’m just experimenting what works for me and having fun whilst doing it.
So enough of me rambling, let’s get started!
Here are all the blog posts that have been posted this week. Just click on the ones that you have missed.
My Current Stationary Obsession
If you bullet journal or your just like me and have an unhealthy addiction to collecting stationary, then you probably get where I’m coming from when I say “obsessed”.
I absolutely love stationary. I have hundreds of pens, pencils, stamps and stickers on my desk and they all have a different purpose for when I’m either writing in my bujo or when I’m scrap-booking.
Just like reading books, being creative and doing arts and crafts is my happy place and I could do it all day if I wanted to. So I wanted to share what items that I have been loving recently.
NOTE: All these links are from Amazon and will be on the UK website; make sure to switch to the country you currently live in for accurate prices.
This stamp set has only recently entered my collection so I haven’t really played with it that much. So far, I’ve only used it a couple of times but every time I do, I really love the old vintage vibe that the stamps have. It definitely matches my style and aesthetics.
Also, it’s super helpful if your lazy like me and don’t want to do calligraphy writings all the time.
This also has recently entered my collection and I already love it! Since I’m a perfectionist and my handwriting is quite small. I’ve been trying to find a pen that is both erasable and thin. I originally had the Pilot Frixion Point Pens but the lowest they can go to is 0.5mm and I wanted something thinner than that. Finally, I found the Muji Erasable Pen when I was up in London and I’m in love!🥰🥰🥰
I have used these pens for quite some time now and I will definitely be re-purchasing these soon. When I wanted to get into calligraphy, these were the first pens I bought and I’m still practice with them now. Although, I’m still not very good and will probably need more practice, these are really great pens if you want to get into calligraphy… even if you’re a total beginner or an amateur like me.
When it comes to music, my playlist is often filled with a wide range of different genres and styles. I don’t particularly stick to one genre and like to listen to all different types of music, depending on my mood.
Hamilton (Musical) Soundtrack
My recent fixation is the Hamilton Soundtrack. I have been listening to this soundtrack over and over again and I’m STILL not over it! I was first attracted to the soundtrack when I listened to “Satisfied” on Youtube. Jake Kim did an amazing animation to the song which drew me to it in the first place. [Link to the Video]
I after that song, I was hooked and I haven’t even watched it live yet! It honestly feels like an Ex that you can’t get over and you get to the point where you become that crazy and obsessed ex-girlfriend stalking everything they do. Well… I’m at that point… and I’m not even ashamed of it.
I’m super excited to see it live that I’ve already booked tickets to watch the show! My heart can’t wait!! 💕💕💕
Best of Yiruma
If I’m not listening to Hamilton, I usually listen to Yiruma for some down-time. Since it is all instrumental, I love listening him when I’m either meditating or doing my night routine. I just love his musical pieces, it’s so clean and very pleasing to the ears. It’s perfect to listen to when you’re having a pamper session. Just get a hot beverage, light some candles and you are set for a really relaxing evening.
Movies & Shows
The Haunting of House Hill
I didn’t know about this show until it was introduced to me by my cousin who is a huge fan of horror films. She harped on about it so much that I finally sat down and watched it myself and holy shiitake mushrooms! I felt like my mind had been warped on so many dimensions I didn’t know what to do with myself when I finished it.
Based on Shirley Jackson’s novel, the series follows five siblings who, as children, grew up in what would go on to become the most famous haunted house in the country. The plot alternates between two timelines, following the siblings in their adult life whose paranormal experiences at the Hill House continue to haunt the present day, and flashbacks depicting events leading up to that eventful night when the family fled from the mansion. The siblings are forced to face those tragic events and confront the ghosts of their past.
This was such a well-written and brilliantly produced show. From the twists to the jump scares it was so well directed and it had you on the edge of your seat at all times. Everything was shown when it was supposed to be shown. Nothing felt out of place, even the ending.
The Disastrous Life of Saiki K
On a lighter note, I started watching The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. a couple of months back and I loved it! The series follows a high school student with every superpower imaginable, including teleportation, telepathy and psychokinesis. Despite having such amazing powers, he faces all kinds of hardships and tries to avoid attention from everyone. He attempts to secretly use his powers whilst trying to live a simple and normal life.
I really liked how fun the episodes are and the way it makes fun of certain anime tropes in a light-hearted but overly exaggerated way. The anime also doesn’t shy away from making fun of the character’s themselves by making them act in an exaggerated manner. Put simply, the whole series is pretty much a parody.
I know that Netflix had just recently released the continuation of this series called The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.: Reawakened. Can’t wait to watch it!
